I'm a newbie attempting to get up to speed with CRM and have had CRM running
fine on my standalone development machine.

However today I have installed Visual Studio 2003 onto the machine and CRM
has stopped working.

Whenever I now attempt to run CRM I get the following error:
"Authentication Error
Microsfot CRM could not log you on to the system. Make sure your user
record is eanbled and that you have been assigned at least one security
role"

(I am no longer attempting to run CRM from within Visual Studio 2003.)

I run the "Microsoft CRM Environment Diagnostics Wizard" and receive
Success:110 Warnings:1 Errors:0

The details of the error are under the heading "Microsoft CRM Active
Directory check" and appear as follows:

Some of the domain controllers do not appear to be running. The following
list of servers should be checked.
PrivUserGroup {344d7257-860d-498e-a23c-c5f0418222d5}
ReportingGroup {344d7257-860d-498e-a23c-c5f0418222d5}
SQLAccessGroup {344d7257-860d-498e-a23c-c5f0418222d5}
UserGroup {344d7257-860d-498e-a23c-c5f0418222d5}

Any assistance would be *much* appreciated!

cheers,
Paul.

FYI This was two seperate problems I think.

The 2nd "domain controller" issue was because these groups had been moved in
AD from the Users node to the Domain Controllers node. Dragging them back
fixed that diagnostic error.

The main "Authentication Error" was fixed by selecting the Repair option in
the Setup application on the installation CD.

Magic!

cheers,
Paul.
