When I try to launch downloaded clip _MQCCKLQ.CIL (and
others)the following occurs.

"You have attempted to import an unsupported clip type.
No thumbnail can be generated for file PE00578_.wmf, so
it will not be inserted into Clip Gallery. Continue
importing clips?"

This then brings up "Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0" window.

I have emptied the Temporary internet file.
I am running Windows XP (Home edition)SP1
I am operating Microsoft Works version 6.0
I have run the "Artgalry.exe" file.
I am running "Norton AntiVirus 2002"

Can you help?

James, Download and install the MS Data Access Components (MDAC)
http://microsoft.com/data/
Compacting your Gallery would help too. Right-click any image, click recover. Have
you asked this question in the Works newsgroup?
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.works.win
Most Gallery problems can be solved by going through the troubleshooting steps in the
help files, the gallery has its own help folder.
Can you find the .cil file on your computer? What happens when you double-click it?

Mary,
Thank you for your advise to date.
I have now installed MDAC 2.6 SP2 Refresh (2.62.7400.1)
and MDAC 2.7 RTM Refresh (2.70.9001.0) with no luck.
I am unable to "click recover" on an image as this is my
first home computer (4 weeks) and have no history of clip
art at home.
I did post the same message in the other "Works
newsgroup" before I found this one. Sorry :-)
I have been through the "troubleshooting steps in the
help files, the gallery has its own help folder"; no luck
or not obvious to me.
When I double-click .cil files I get: "You have attempted
to import an unsupported clip type. No thumbnail can be
generated for file PE00578_.wmf, so it will not be
inserted into Clip Gallery. Continue importing clips?
<Yes> <No>".
Please persist with me.
Regards
James

There are some clip gallery updates here.
http://cgl.microsoft.com/clipgallerylive/pss/

I have no knowledge of Works so I am not the best source. The below is for Office,
but it may work for you:
Install Clip Gallery 5.0
Quit all programs that are currently open.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click Microsoft Office 2000 or the
the appropriate Office 2000 stand-alone product, and then click Add/Remove.
In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Add or Remove
Features.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Tools.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Clip Gallery.
Click the Clip Gallery icon.
On the shortcut menu, click Run from My Computer if you want to install only the Clip
Gallery program, or click Run All from My Computer if you want to install all of the
clip art that is included with Clip Gallery.
Click Update Now to allow Office 2000 Setup to install the components that you have
selected.
