error 0x80004003 (biztalk 2004)

Hi there,
since couple of weeks ago we are getting this error on our dev environment
every time need to make a transaction request to database through adapters.
we are using TOPXML adapters and databases are oracle. nothing obvious has
changed and we have reinstalled the adapters.we have confirmed that
connection gets establised to databases but then nothing else is logged on
the listener. through eventviewer can see the error as 'An exception occured
attempting to retreive the Batch Size for the Adapter
System.NullReference.Exception
Any help is greatly appreciated.
