Using XCOPY on a system, two separate xcopy commands... sending the
copy to two different destinations, at different times.
One xcopy will work. The other one (the only difference being the
final destination) will not.
xcopy e:\users\students\* Y:\students_tue /s/i/y
(above works OK copies to the Y drive)
xcopy e:\users\students\* f:\students_mon /s/i/y
(above does not work ..it won't find the e drive etc)
Scratching my head as to why this is!
Thanks
A few decades ago someone thought they were being clever by naming a
scholastic level programming language "Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic
Instruction Code" (thus the BASIC acronym). It's been causing confusion
ever since. Read these forums/newsgroup names like you would a folder
description (DOS as contained within BASIC which is within Public etc)
You may find a larger number of persons able to answer you inquiry in
the microsoft.public.win3x_wfw_dos or the
microsoft.public.win2000.cmdprompt.admin groups.
Have you tried using capital letters for the drive description, using
destination folders without the underscore or enclosing the location and
file descriptions in quotation marks?
OOPs... reading old post from this group see now that it is for
basic.
Will try your suggestions to see if it makes any difference.
Thanks
Do you have an F: drive?
Have you confirmed that you can write to it?

Good question... had another look at the F drive (USB HD) and though
I could see it I could not access its one and only folder, or write
to it.
Unplugged and re-attached ... now it was showing many folders and I
had access again.
Thanks
Sure...
Glad it's been sorted out now!

Look, I'm not the one who wrote the SPAM in the first place, and I really
don't see how
it could matter whether or not the message was quoted. The original is STILL
going to be
there, and most likely archived for the masses. Who really cares?
