Internet explorer is shutting down error message

I have IE8 but this was doing this with IE7. when I close out of IE I get a
message "Internet Explorer is shutting down. Windows will check for a
solution" and then there is a message that if a solution is found they will
let me know and then I get a message that IE is restarting. I have to cancel
both of these messages each time I close down IE. It is very annoying.
