My WinXPpro won't boot> Error: "Invalid System Drive"
Gdisk shows drive 1 as D: (which should be C: for drive 1)

How can I change the drive letter on drive 1 back to C: using MSDOS???

Make sure you haven't accidentally left an old floppy disk or cd-rom stuck in it's
drive slots. This would result in the error message you received.

If not, it looks like a problem either with your BIOS (has switched the hard-drives
round), the hard-drive has failed, or you have a problem with the Master Boot Record
(MBR) or Boot Sector of your system drive.

What I recommend you do is first go into the system BIOS (by pressing either the [F2]
or [DELETE] keys BEFORE the system tries to boot from the hard-drive , e.g.; straight
away after you turn on the power.

Then check that the hard-drive is registering correctly as the first boot device
after the floppy and cd drives.

If it is NOT visible as the primary hard-drive, then it has probably failed. There
is a slight change that an internal "ribbon cable" had become dislodged. After first
switching off the power and unplugging the PC, take the back off it and make sure
that the ribbon cable and power cable are plugged into the hard drive firmly.

If it IS visible as the primary hard-drive, then it could be a corrupted MBR or Boot
Sector.

Insert your XP Installation disk into the cd-rom drive and boot from it (having set
the system to look boot from the DVD/CD drive as first bootup device).

Then, when asked by the XP Installation CD, press "R" to "Repair using Recovery
Console".

This starts a utility not unlike DOS (but it is not). You get a full list of
available commands by typing in HELP then pressing [ENTER].

As Recovery Console Starts you will be prompted for the Administrator password.
Invariably this has not been set and all that is required is for you to just press
[ENTER]

You then need to type these commands in order;

FIXMBR C:

FIXBOOT C:

This should resolve any problems the disk has preventing it from booting from the
system partition after eliminating the other possibilities first.

Typo - 18,13 - "change" should read "chance"

Typically, Drive 0 would be C: and drive 1 would be D: unless you have them
reallocated in BIOS.

Microsoft Drive 0 is MSDOS Gdisk and Ghost, Drive 1.
I discovered my mistake was using Ghost Clone of an NTFS partition to a
