How many of you have deployed XP sp2 on a SBS2000 domain? I have some issues
with sp2 and after upgrading a workstation, I turn off some of the services
with the enhanced security settings. Is that insane? The way I see it, SP2
was designed for all the non-computer smart people. I keep up to date on our
AV defs, windows updates, application updates and monitor the firewall logs.

What are your thoughts of XP SP2?

In addition to any bug fixes and general improvements that may be included
in SP2, the new firewall will protect your computer from the potentially
dangerous actions of the person in the next office. An
interanlly-introduced trojan or virus will be just as big a headache as one
that comes in through the Internet gateway. This would be a download,
something that came in over VPN from a user's home, something introduced in
a software or patch install, etc.

Another thing is that future patches, etc. from Microsoft will probably
require SP2.

So my advice would be to install the SP and work through the issues.

FYI, I'm running it on my own workstation, and I'm planning on rolling it
out to the rest of the network in a few days. I have a couple of vendors
with known issues I need to resolve first, then SUS will be installing it on
all the workstations.

I'm running SP2 in our own SBS2K domain on my laptop with absolutely no
problems.

Nero didn't like it and needed an update but that's all so far. Absolutely
no problems with either internal SBS-domain-type working or even with remote
VPN into our office.

Just my own experience. I'd recommend getting SP2 onto those desktops anyway
and working round any issues as per the other advice.

Cheers,

David
