Hi All

I have added a new distribution group on Exchange 2000
but it has not appeared in the users GAL yet. How long
does it take or is there a way of pushing the update?

thanks

Mark

Generally, it will show up immediately. On some workstations you might have
to do a Refresh (F5? F9?), or actually reboot. Another possibility is that
it may have something to do with workstations with Cached mode enabled in
outlook. just a guess.

It is in Cached mode, office 2003 and if I remove it, the
changes appear. What is the difference between the two
modes, which one should I use?

In Cached Exchange Mode, Outlook works off of a local copy of the user's
mailbox, synchronizing with the Exchange Server in the background during
periods of low activity. IMO this would be a technology developed for large
enterprises where bandwidth limitations and server traffic might impact
Exchange performance. Although I don't think it matters in an SBS-sized
network, you could try both modes and see which one you think works better
for you.

Personally, I've had some strange problems with cached mode (pre-SP1) so I
don't use it. In particular, I had problems with cached mode while using
Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2000 (SBS2K), so if you're in that configuration
I'd consider turning it off.

Please note that cached mode and synchronizing to an OST can be treated as
separate functions. So, if you have a laptop user who wants to make his/her
mailbox available offline, you can still do that as you normally would, with
or without cached mode.
