I have set up sbs 2000 and the exchange server will not forward mail.

The server name is server.gtarchitect.co.uk and our domain name is
gtarchitect.co.uk is this causing the problem? Am I going to have to
reinstall SBS and assign a different domain name to overcome the problem?

Geoff, this question is asked at least daily! The recommendation when
installing SBS is NOT to use your FQDN of your company, but rather use a .local
suffix. So if your company already uses mycompany.com out on the Internet (for
email, public web site, etc) --- you do NOT want to name your SBS server
muscompany.com, but rather something like mycompany.local

Saying that, there is a workaround. Here is a post from Susan Bradley from
Sunday March 10, 2002 at 3:52pm on the topic:

You have used the FQDN for the domain name of your server and now you can not
access your site that is hosted by your ISP. Why is this happening? Well, if you
named the domain of SBS 2000 "yourcompany.com" every request for this domain
will resolved to the local IP address of your server. In a default setup this is
192.168.16.2 and there you will not find your website when it is running at your
ISP.

So, you have to do something that it resolves to the IP address of the website.
Go to Start/Programs/Administrative Tool/DNS
Expand out the server name by clicking on the plus sign to the left of the name
Expand out Forward Lookup zones
Right click on the company.com DNS zone and select New Host
For the name enter "www" (without the quotes) , for the IP address you will need
to specify the IP address of where the web page is on the Internet
Click the Add Host button
Click the Done button after the pop up message that the record was added

At this point you should be able to go to a command prompt and ping
www.company.com to at least have it resolve to the IP address.

Mariette,

Sorry, did not mean to bypass you or to not give you credit. I didn't know it
came from you. That's why I was careful to put the exact date/time of the
message that I cut & pasted, and who wrote it (Susan) ... so blame her!
