Hi all,
Where can I find information on the maximum sizes of various Active
Directory fields?

For example I found out that the "initials" field only holds 6
characters. The "ExtensionAttributes" 1 through 13 hold 1024 characters and
14 and 15 each hold 2048 characters. These values were discovered by
accident and by trial and error. I've noticed also that "title" and
"department" also have limited sizes but I have not determined exactly what
they are.

Any general guidelines would be helpful. Of course specific info would be
even better.

Thanks

You can use ADSI Edit to view the rangeUpper and rangeLower properties of
the attribute in the Schema Container of AD. Viewing the "initials"
attribute, I see that the value of rangeUpper property is 6. The value of
rangeLower is 1.

It is also published online in the MSDN AD schema reference for the normal
AD attributes. The rangeUpper value is the thing to look at as per Richard's
suggestion.
