Back End Performance Slow Down

I developed an application used by all members of our small training team.
Everyone else on the team is in another city [same city as the J drive
server], while I'm located in a city about 200 miles from our Network J
server. The front ends are all stored locally on everyone's C drive.

For the past few months, I'm the only one who suffered from slow
performance. My front end is on my C drive, however, when I try to access any
files from the J drive in that distant city, it takes forever. I learned to
live with that. However, this morning, everyone sent me email advising
they're experiencing the same slow down in performance, even though the J
drive server is in the same building where they work.

Is it possible I did something while designing the front end to slow
performance for everyone else? Are there performance issues I should be aware
of when configuring a FE and a BE? Or is it possible that this is a network
issue and has nothing to do with my FE design? If so, how can I tell?

Thanks,
Robert

Are you saying you are running over a WAN?

If so, Albert Kallal has a thoughtful analysis:

Good luck!

Hi Jeff:

Thanks for referring me to that article. Unfortunately there's very little I
can do about our network, but maybe I can look into the possibility of using
Terminal Services, which Albert Kallal apparently recommends.

HIghly unlikely. I would suspect an anti virus upgrade or something
similar.

For performance tips while on the same LAN see the Access Performance
FAQ page at http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm

However no matter what you do your performance will suck. Unless your
employer puts in a 100 mpbs connection between the two offices.
