The system should build the module for the right architecture by

ia64 _IS NOT_ a 64bit version of x86. It's intended for itanium processors,
you should use amd64 (x86_64)

i guess it should be ARCH=AMD64 or something alike... look into the
folder /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-18-generic/arch/ ...

with a sudo make i'm getting :

then you can simply look which other directories the directory "arch"

i give a look at that directory but inside there are several
directory ... the only that could be interested are ia64, that gives
the error in the first message,, or x86.

the problem is that with "sudo make ARCH=ia64" is looking for two
files that are not there :
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-18-generic/arch/ia64/scripts/toolchain-
flags: not found
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-18-generic/arch/ia64/scripts/check-gas:
not found

with a "sudo make":
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.c',
needed by `arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.s'.
make[1]: *** [prepare0] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-18-generic'

Sorry if it seems the same question but really i'ld like to solve it.

I've install this driver, and my webcam starts :D yhoo...but there is
some problem with her "quality" is so dark, that i can see nothing.
When i take webcam near lcd - i see, if i get a very strong light i
see, but in low quality.

My webcam is media-tech nocto 1,3 Mpix (0c45:6242). Wait for new
driver !!
ps. My linux is ubuntu hardy and 2.6.24.19 kernel :-)

Hi,

you can adjust exposure by loading the driver with the module parameter
"exposure" (e.g. insmod microdia.ko exposure=a000) or using SYSFS. See
README-file for further informations.
Automatic exposure control isn't implemented for this device yet.

It worked perfectly for my microdia sonix sn9c201 045c:627b. Thank you
very much.

It fully works with amsn and gqcam.
But in spite of my file /dev/video0 exists, "Camorama" says it can't
open /dev/video0.
My xawtv shows a black screen, and same when i use skype (v
2.0.0.72) : black screen (in spite of my microdia appears in the list
of the detected webcam).

Here is a part of my "lsmod | grep videodev" :
videodev ov51x_jpeg,sn9c102,microdia
v4l2_common sn9c102,videodev
v4l1_compat videodev

i googled my problem and i read that skype might want a "foceblock=1"
directive in order to resolve this black screen problem... But i don't
know more. Should i assign this command for microdia or for
ov51x_jpeg ?

regards.

Last I checked, 627b was working with Skype
(not great quality picture, but hey it was working!)

Yeah skype should be working.
camorama won;t work because it only supports v4l1 not v4l2.
xawtv may or may not work theres a bug in version 3 that unless you
have a patched version won't work.

If skype really won't work you should recompile the driver with debug
output turned on and send a log of the output generated in your syslog
file when trying to use the video with skype.

Note, camorama will work with v4l2 devices when using the userspace v4l1
emulation which is part of libv4l:
http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/3636.html

You can grab the latest libv4l here:
http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.4.0.tar.gz

Also grab the 0.3.9 release as that is the latest which includes a subdir with
patches with bugfixes to applications and camorama needs quite a few bugfixes:
http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.3.9.tar.gz

As for patches for other apps such as xawtv, see:
http://linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Libv4l_Progress

On ubuntu 8.10 you need additional tools, the apt-get line would be:
apt-get install kernel-package linux-headers build-essential ctags
linux-headers-generic
(linux-headers-generic fixes bug with missing /var/lib/.../build
directory, ctags is needed for compilation)

The distribution name and version could help.

Basically you lack kernel-development packages.

Sorry about not mentioning the details. I use Ubuntu 8.10. I am using  kernel version  2.6.27-11-generic and have the package linux-headers-lbm-2.6.27-11 installed.
Steps 1 - 3 worked fine. Got the error on the make command in step 4 .

The error :

This error seems to pop up often for people using ubuntu though i've
never had it myself. Basically uninstalling the linux-headers package
and then reinstalling it hs seemed to fix it in the past

Thank you so much. This really fixed my problem.:-)
I now have a working Microdia iSonix webcam. Everything went
flawlessly. Just one thing: lib4l is actually lib4l-ruby1.8 in the
Hardy repository.
