Past Meetings

February 1 2007

 * Speakerless format where we decided to break up into groups, each exploring 1 of 3 of the common or interesting templating engines available for python.  Genshi, twiddler, and maco were investigated.  Genshi is similar to kid, but with some advantages, notably, better error reporting.  Twiddler is quite different in that it basically replaces or manipulates elements in a text or HTML file or stream by name or ID.  Twiddler would be good for most template requirements, but not would not be very suitable for real complex template processing.  Maco is reportedly very fast, supports multiple-layered inheritance, and also offers a great deal of flexible caching control.  Powerful but a bit more complex to set up and use.

 * Other templating engines were mentioned in passing, like cheetah, which has been around longer than most other offerings, and is fast.  The speed is due to the fact that it uses 'C' rather than python for much of it's work.
