ATTENTION ALL GIRLS COACHES AND PLAYERS - PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO ALL QUALIFIED PLAYERS - PRACTICE BEGINS THIS TUESDAY ***
What: An opportunity for select high school girl rugby players from the Metropolitan New York City area (NY, NJ & CT) to play at the next level with an aspiration of representing the USA Eagles or on other representative All-Star teams. We seek not only the most talented players and athletes, but also players who exhibit the right attitude and effort on and off the field.
Practice/Tryout Schedule: Tuesday evening practices: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm May 15, 22, 29, June 5, 12 Sunday practice, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon June 10 (start times, not turn up times)
All practices will be held at: Columbia University’s Baker Field (The turf soccer field) 533 W 218th Street, New York, NY 10034 (right off Broadway) - Take the 1/9 to 215th & Broadway, or A/C to 207th St. Parking is VERY limited around the area due to construction, so please allow time accordingly. If you are driving, enter by the Football stadium gates, walk to right and right again, up the hill to the soccer/rugby field.
One full squad will be selected to attend the All Star Tournament: New England Regional All Star Challenge Cup, June 16th -17th in MA. More details to follow, but travel likely to be by team bus; and lodging and meals in a dormitory setting.
We have assembled a coaching staff that has competed and/or coached at a very high level. So we are very excited to work with the best players from the NYC region and to give each of them the opportunity to become the best player they can be while playing with other’s who also love rugby. In order to achieve this, we will create a high performing team.
As we go through the practices we will be working on developing your core skills (individual and unit) and rugby principles, within a consistent game-plan framework. It is essential that you make as many practices as you can in order for us to build continuity and consistency ahead of our June 16 & 17th competitions. Additionally, we will be making selections not just on playing ability and attendance but also your attitude.
Guest coaches: I have spoken with a number of guest coaches who will assist throughout the process.
What to expect: You can expect to learn, have fun and be worked hard. In return, we expect you to be on time, respectful and hard working.
Player participation fee: Selected players will be asked to contribute $75 toward their participation to help cover the cost of us participating in the New England Tournament (Registration, Jerseys, Refreshments, Travel & Accommodations, etc). There may be limited scholarships available. If you are selected and need a scholarship position, we will liaise with you and your coach to discuss your eligibility.
Please contact Coach Gary Heavner (g...@heavner.net) with any questions or to RSVP.
