Hello,

This product is really easy to get data into...thanks so much for
making it feel lightweight.

I'm getting into a reality check, now though. I've been reading the
forums and this problem of sharing resources across separate projects
is going to be an issue.

In the mean time, I'd just like to duplicate a project so I can look
at it next to another one.

When I try to open the bad dupem made by copying the file, I get the
error saying I need to use " Save As" to create a good dupe. When I
try to do that though, I get an error

"The Document "My Dupe" could not be saved as "My Dupe". Attempt to
access object not found in store."

So, I can't seem to do what I need to do.

We bought Merlin for this feature. We are in a transition phase as a
group, and we will definitely need shared resources (just 1 calendar)
and the ability to see project work in context.

I made the mistake of putting all my data in 2.5beta files and already
had to reenter it once, and now I can't find a way to even get 1
project, truly, into another at the moment even when they are 2.0.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Sorry if I sound snarly; it's a
really easy to use product and I just want it to work at the moment.

It looks like dragging the files into the open project activities view
solves my immediate problem of reusing my data. Since this sort of
hoses that data for individual project use (since I can't link files
because of Save as Issue) I am eager to here of what object I might
add to the store so that Merlin is satisfied.

Hello Alex:

I am not sure how you are duplicating your file but I just tried it
using the finder duplicate command. Simply select the merlin file
(make sure hte file is closed first) , then presses "Command+d". Now I
can open the original and the copy with no issues.

Hey Alex:

If you hope to use the same resources, you can go to the resource
view, select the resources you want to use in other projects then
right click and select "Save Selection..." This way you drag the
resulting file on any new or old project and get the same resources in
all your projects. Of course if you change a specific resource
working time in one project, you have to do it for all the other
projects that this resources is part of.

That's interesting. I just used the control C copy, not duplicate.
Hmph. I will try it this way as you say.

I do not understand what you are saying at first glance but I will try
it today.

The calendars I understand, per resource, but the Save
Selection...does that save it to another file or something? I will go
and try it to see what I find.

Hello Alex:

My idea was in respond you wanting to use a resource pool. Since
Merlin doesn't support resource pools yet, I suggested that you save a
file that has all of your resources. This way you when you start a
new file, you can drag that file onto your newly created project so
you can always see the same resources on all of your projects.

Hi Alex:
I tried both ways, the first way like Anmar suggested and the second
way like you suggest: I switch to resource view and select all
resources, then hit Command + C and copy them to the clipboard. In my
new project I go to the resources view and hit Command + V to paste
them in...voila.
