I am very disappointed to see the sad scenario of Online Merb Book.

There are no threads regarding information...

No Updates. More than two months have passed.

Is Merb team really serious to maintain Merb Book and care about
Merbists or indirectly they want us to shift to Rails Guides, before
Rails 3.0 actually arrives.

I am now really sick of waiting and reading same thing again and
again.

If you have something to add then:

git clone git://github.com/mattetti/merb-book.git

Edit, check in, repeat.

I think it's fair to say that the Merb Book team has moved on to
working on the Rails guides and Rails activism in general.

Hey guys,

I've been expecting a large contribution from a merb book author who decided to not publish his book. I reviewed most of the content and I was told the content would be available soon. I'll check on that when I'll come back from vacation.

We are still actively working on Merb even tho we also work on Rails and I'd like to remember to people that Merb is an open source project and therefore your contribution is also welcomed.

Hey,
I thought I might chime in as the said author. I've written a
significant amount of for the beginning merb book that apress decided
not to publish, which I intend to make public through the merb-book.
The book was written around building a social review site from scratch
with a focus on integration testing with cucumber.

Before I start merging the work in, I would like some feedback on
which direction to take. As the content I had written was intended to
cover the functionality of Merb in chapter sized bites and is quite
intertwined, I could try and unravel it and add the relevant content
to the current book, or I could refactor the merb-book in such a way
that would allow the content to be easily combined.

Let me know what you think, and if you want to grab a copy of some of
work on the old beginning merb book, you can do so here (http://
bitzesty.com/merb.zip)

NB: much of it was awaiting editing/rewriting, and I have a couple of
later chapters in purely draft form and please forgive the Apress
specific word markup.

Hi Matthew,

I skimmed the chapters you posted. That's a nice chunk of work; sorry
the book got canceled.

I think the merb-book should be targeted to intermediate to advanced
web developers. My guess is that novice developers will benefit most
from Rails; there are excellent resources for that. So, I think the
text can be more concise and less dependent on a long ongoing example
app. I like the current layout of the merb-book and think it would
prefer to see your content extracted into it. Just one opinion, of
course.

I'd like to help keep the merb fires burning and hope to contribute to
the book here soon. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks,
Dan

I agree on slimming down the text in places, as I was working to page
count per chapter restrictions. One of the reasons for asking about
feedback was to see what people thought of the book, and how it could
fit with the merb-book and I agree that some of the content isn't
suitable for advanced users (being a beginners book). So thanks for
reading it :)

I don't have many plans for this weekend, so I will start to unravel
the examples in the book from the app I built and merge in only what
makes since given that we have a fair amount of content already. Long
term I plan to rewrite the book for rails 3 and post it as a series of
work-along blog posts /w code. Perhaps compile it into a free pdf at
the end.

Hi Matt,

Best wishes for your Rails 3 plans. I hope you will write the book
based on Merb Way and not Rails Way.

Pl. explain something like Default way and Custom way in your book as
well.

When can we expect, the online book with updated contents....?

I have read your merb book and was very disappointed to see that
Apress have decided not to publish such a great book. Sooner or Later
they'll realize what mistake they have made.

Awaiting updated contents soon.

Hey Matt,

I am waiting everyday for the new contents.

It seems you have still not uploaded in the online merb book.

If you are too busy, you might help the other way. Kindly upload the
remaining pdf files, that might be useful for newbies like us.

I would like to go the merb way and not the rails way, thats the
biggest difficulty. No good merb books are around.

I hope, you will help us.

RE: Beginning Merb Remaining chapters.

The chapters that I have not released are either very rough drafts or
just an outline. As I'm starting out in the world of consulting, I
unfortunately don't have the time to complete the Beginning Merb book.
I am however going to write another book (essentially following the
same process of developing an application) with Rails 3. I have set
myself a deadline of 6 months for this new book so It should be ready
by the end of december.

Im sorry if I have disappointed anyone about the last few chapters,
it's just I have other priorities at this moment in time. If anyone
has any questions or needs any development/consulting you can contact
me on ma...@bitzesty.com

Thanks Matthew,

Very Good news indeed.

Will you be posting the chapters as and when ready OR... you'll post
the Full book itself in December.

Posting the chapters as and when ready would be the right and
effective way., so that others can also join and submit few things
based on the requirement of the next chapter.

Feel free to take more opinions here.
