Thought you might be interested in my now heavily modified MM1.5.

I've replaced the Z rod/screw assembly with a single 16mm ball screw on each side and the X linear motion is handled with a CNC style Linear guide rail and carriage. Y axis also now has 12mm precision rods and SDP-SI self aligning bushings. Somewhat over-engineered I know, but the 16mm screws were way cheaper than 12mm, same goes for the y rods.
I know this isn't an entirely new approach but for those wondering if it was possible, the answer is yes :). The bot is now VERY rigid and I've done away with any visible Z wobble/artefacts. Next step is converting to a 2.0 hybrid I think.
If people are interested in the STLs (and where I got the parts from), let me know and I'll put the effort into getting them up on thingiverse.
