Hi Folks

Thought you might be interested in my now heavily modified MM1.5.

https://plus.google.com/photos/116889746506579771100/albums/5873680410436510305

I've replaced the Z rod/screw assembly with a single 16mm ball screw on each side and the X linear motion is handled with a CNC style Linear guide rail and carriage. Y axis also now has 12mm precision rods and SDP-SI self aligning bushings. Somewhat over-engineered I know, but the 16mm screws were way cheaper than 12mm, same goes for the y rods.
I know this isn't an entirely new approach but for those wondering if it was possible, the answer is yes :). The bot is now VERY rigid and I've done away with any visible Z wobble/artefacts. Next step is converting to a 2.0 hybrid I think.
If people are interested in the STLs (and where I got the parts from), let me know and I'll put the effort into getting them up on thingiverse.

Tim,

That is pretty slick!  I see you have the ballscrew and linear slide links on your Google+ page, that was a great help.  Might look into something like this on my next build.  Thanks for posting and if you have the time, the STLs would be nice to have.

Don't you already have a MM 2.0 hybrid with this design or are you still using rods for linear motion on the Y?
