"In U.S., the Constitution still rules"
The opinion of the Bible expressed by the writer of your June 22
letter "Justice administered" is not shared by many. Cherry-picking
the "good bits" will not do, I'm afraid. According to the New
Testament, the killing of non-Christians is condoned. Indeed, the
whole Bible is filled with gnashing of teeth and the wrath of the
supposed God. I would label it X-rated.
The writer also proposes that due process is unnecessary. Perhaps he
supports lynching and an eye for an eye.
We are fortunate to live in a democratic republic where everyone is
equal under the Constitution, and mob rule is thankfully absent. I
dread to think what would happen if we put the author's God's law
above the Constitution. We'd be going around gouging people's eyes out
and dashing babies against the stones -- perish the thought!
