How to handle a firewall dropping an idle connection from MSM to cache

I have several tomcat servers and a three node Couchbase cluster. The connection between MSM and the

cache cluster is through a firewall, the issue I'm having is that once this connection is idle for 1 hour the firewall drops

it and MSM appears to be unable to recover forcing a server restart.

Has anybody come across this issue?
