Sometimes you will come across a member on meetup.com and you won't be able to see their groups, bio, or interests because the member opt'd not to show this information in their account preferences.

Until now you could not detect this in the API but you can, starting today, when specifying the value of "privacy" with any of the v2 member methods. You can see if a given member has chosen to hide or show any of these pieces of information, just as you can on the site.
