King
Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has fired one of the country's senior
religious clerics over comments he made about the newly opened,
co-educational technology university which bears the King's name and is
located outside of Jeddah.
According to reports, Saad el Shethry was sacked after describing
mixed gender education as evil and a great sin, and suggested the
education at KAUST, the new $7 billion research facility, should be
supervised by religious scholars to monitor what violates the Sharia.
