The big deal isn't that some ticket brokers are getting a
good deal on tickets (Washington Post: http://xrl.us/bfhiq9
), it's that FedEx Field sucks so badly that it's turned a
seat at a Redskins game from one of the toughest ticket in
sports to one that is easily obtained by anybody, including
opposing fans.
FedEx is a charmless 91,000 seat stadium situated in a spot
that's inconvenient for residents of the two biggest
counties in the D.C. metro area. Parking and traffic are a
mess, especially on a Monday night when the prospect of
rush hour traffic and postgame gridlock in the parking lots
forces a lot of people to get rid of their tickets.
If you took a survey of the Steelers fans at FedEx Field
that night last fall, I'd bet that a vast majority got
their tickets directly from ticket holders, rather than the
team itself. That's the problem. There are as many people
who don't want to go to Redskins games now as there are
people who do want to go. I get offers to go to almost
every 'Skins home game free of charge because people can't
unload their tickets. That would have been unheard of at
the old RFK Stadium.

Which was not in an exactly prime location either.
Build a stadium *over* Union station. Plenty of rail transportation,
from Metro to Amtrak, not to mention busses.
Prime or not, it was close to public transit and even driving there
was nothing like the nightmare of Fed Ex.
Fed is the worst stadium/arena experience in American sports, period.
It's a horror show to get to, and it's a horror show to leave. Count
on it taking close to 2 hours to get out of there after a game. And
get there at 11 am if you want to be in your seat by kickoff.
The place is a total dump. It's really hard to believe that it's only
a decade old - it pales in comparison to any other "new" football
stadium I've been to. Not enough bathrooms, tiny "jumbo" tron, a real
unfinished look to the place, and it looks like not a day's
contemplation went into the architecture or style of the place.
Clearly the instructions were "make it really, really big" and that's
it.
It's really sad that the Skins went from one of the GREAT "shitholes"
in sports, RFK stadium, with all of it's charm a metro that took you
right there, to one of the worst, a soulless, character free
entertainment "prison" whose sole purpose is to cram as many people
in
as possible and keep them there until they empty their wallets.
I've only been to 3 or 4 games there, but it's enough. The quality on
the field is generally shit, the stadium is shit, and it's a
nightmare
to get to and from. "It's better on TV" is sadly true in this case.
You can't really blame Snyder on this one, though the fact that they
keep adding seats to this craphole, especially in the infamous 200s
section where you are better off watching it on a neighbors TV from
the street looking in their window, certainly bears his imprint.
You're right that this is one Redskin problem that Snyder can't be
blamed for. Fed Ex was built by Jack Kent Cooke as a monument to
himself. While he had been a fairly good owner in his earlier years
(at least a lot better than Snyder in my opinion), in his final years
I think he let the Skins team go downhill under Norv Turner and
Charlie Casserly and instead spent his time and attention mostly on
finding a site for....and building....the new stadium before he died.
Yes he can be blamed for it. Instead of ass raping the fans and
destroying the franchise for the last 10 years, he should have sized
it up for the shithole it is, built a new stadium that people actually
want to go to and can get to and dropped a nuclear bomb on the piece
of shit. He can be blamed for just about everything that is wrong
with the franchise.
