You failed your math test, comrade Einstein

The book offers some background essays and an excellent collection of
creative, deep problems.
The collection was used to prevent Jewish applicants from entering math
departments of top Soviet universities. They are extremely cool problems,
used to commit atrocities. What a macabre piece of math history! The... more »

Maria,
Congratulations on the book! I ordered a PDF version. It looks fantastic!
I'm including a reference to it in an article I'm writing for the AMTNJ centennial journal. What is your publishing name?
Thanks - Ihor

This technique sounds like a good element to include in the developing language of math.
It seems to me that this is similar to the "back of the textbook" location of graphing in algebra.
I have stated before, I think that if I had seen the estimation potential of graphs and the physical representation of formula result as... more »

Crowd-translation software?
|
| |
Hello,
Does anyone here have experiences with group translation software?
The Creative Commons book "Moebius Noodles" is out, and several people
offered to translate it into different languages. I want to coordinate
these efforts in some good open public space, so more volunteers can join,
more languages can happen, and so on. I am looking for project/task... more »

Hello Sue,
I understand what you're facing and what you're asking about. Like you,
I'm not positive about "Tex Point" add-in.
When I do this though, I use Microsoft's Equation Editor / MathType.
However, when iSpring converts to Flash, the equation is converted to an
image, then used just like any other image.... more »

I use "iSpring" (and there is a free version,) for this same purpose. It
converts beautifully. However, I am not sure about the "tech point" plugin
you mention.
If you want to send me one of these PowerPoints, I would convert and upload
it so you could see how it works.
Otherwise, maybe go to their website, ([link]),... more »

publishing PPTs with math text online HELP!
|
| |
Hi all -- A friend has created numerous PowerPoints (over 60) with math equations using the TexPoint plugin ([link] <[link]>). He now wants share them with students and make them available online -- but they must have the plugin installed to see his formatting if he selects PPTShow. He's looking for a workaround -- a way to publish online that will preserve all his math equation formatting, his animations, and his sound (wav) files. Converting to video works but it's very slow. ... more »

lychrel numbers

A couple of years ago I discovered lychrel
numbers<[link]>
.
Interesting. No one knows if they exist in base 10. There are candidates
that have not produced palindromes despite massive computational
investigation, but so far no proofs one way or the other.... more »
