Howdy folks,

I was with Maria Aliberti Lubertazzi in Wilbraham on Wednesday, bouncing on the quaking bog and stalking the outskirts of the Atlantic White Cedar swamps. Thanks to Rob Anderson for posting our butterfly list. The Viceroy was FOY for me. We also had one striking moth, a Nessus Sphinx (Amphion floridensis), out on the bog.

Back at home Thursday, I stepped out to fill the bird feeders and encountered a Giant Leopard Moth (Hypercompe scribonia) on the outside wall of our home. Must be an awful-tasting critter to have such bold markings, and spend the day in close proximity to the bird feeders, but not get picked off by one of the feeder visitors....

Then visited Barbara Spencer's place in Cummington Thursday night, along with several other moth enthusiasts. Not sure if the rest agree, but runaway highlight for me was a Lettered Habrosyne (Habrosyne scripta), lifer for me. We also saw a dizzying variety of Zales and numerous other moth species. Lunas were sparse for the first few hours, then suddenly a half-dozen or more all appeared at once.

Cheers,

Josh
