Hi,

Just moved my business to the Innovation District (i.e. Fort Point)
and am also a regular commuter rail rider. I don't develop mobile
apps, but do lead a team of software developers.

Wondering if the rail station track assignments (as seen on the boards
throughout the station) are available - or could be made available -
as part of a data feed.

As I'm walking (or running) to catch a train it would be nice to know
what track to use. It would allow me to bypass the inside of South
Station (or checking the outside boards) and directly catch a train -
thereby shaving a couple minutes from my walk.

Thanks,
-jmh

Jason,

Good news, we are planning on releasing this information later this
year! First, we will be releasing a pilot feed of commuter rail
location information later this month. This set of data will include
train locations and predictions for Commuter Rail. Predictive
information will only be available once a train is on the move. Until
that time, scheduled information will be shown (much like bus).

The data set we include information from departure boards at North,
South, and Back Bay stations. Later this year, we expect to make that
data available to developers and customers.

That's a good idea. I catch the MARC train in Maryland and you have alot
of commuters taking the Metro who stop to check which track their train
is on at Union Station in DC. It'd be nice to be able to get a text to
what track your train is on or an app to see live departures instead of
stopping to look at a screen.

Has the Commuter Rail feed been released yet?

Cheers,

Vincent, take a look at GTFS, Real-Time Commuter Rail Data and MBTA-realtime on http://www.mbta.com/rider_tools/developers/ . Let  us know if there's something other than that you're looking for.

Sincerely,
