And here are the details ……

Thursday, October 8 – Valley of the Giants.  A very short hike in a beautiful reserve of old growth timber near the abandoned logging town of Valsetz.  Plan on a long drive and a nice amble and picnic in the trees.  Our carpool groups will connect at the post office in Falls City at 10 a.m.  It is only 30 miles from there to the trailhead, but it will take almost an hour and a half to drive to the TH.  The roads are good, but slow.  Salem people meet at 9:15 a.m. at West Salem Safeway.  Contact leader:  Joanne DeMay, 971-237-9775 or jod...@comcast.net  Corvallis area people meet at 9:00 a.m. in the northwest corner of the Bi-Mart parking lot on the corner of 53rd and Philomath Ave.  Contact Corvallis co-leader, Randy Selig, rse...@mindspring.com or  738-0753.

Saturday, October 10  Finley Wildlife Refuge.   Last fall’s walk on this refuge south of Corvallis was lovely, with wonderful fall foliage and lots of natural features.   We’ll use a car shuttle between trailheads for this easy hike, about 4 miles, with not more than 300 feet of elevation gain.  Bring binoculars if you have them.  Meet in the northwest corner of the Bi-Mart parking lot on the corner of 53rd and Philomath Ave. for an 8:00 a.m. departure.   Contact leader:  Karl Hartzell, 758-2275 or karl...@yahoo.com

Sunday, October 11 – Clear Lake/Sahalie & Koosah Falls. The stroll around Clear Lake (5.5 miles, with 200 feet of elevation gain) offers views of beautiful fall foliage, huge springs, lava crossings, and old growth forests in a lovely mountain setting.   This will be combined via the McKenzie River Trail with the loop around the river’s two grandest cascades, Sahalie and Koosah Falls (2.6 miles, with 400 feet of elevation gain).  Moderate, total 9-10 miles.  Meet at Wilkinson Hall parking lot for early 8:00 a.m. departure.  Contact leader:  Robert Verhoogen, 541 745-518 or rverh...@mac.com

Tuesday, October 13th – "Global Climate Change and Its Impact on Oregon" Professor James Coakley from OSU’s College of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences will outline projected changes in Oregon’s environments due to global climate change.   The presentation is co-sponsored by the Corvallis League of Women Voters and the Friends of the Corvallis-Benton County Library.  7:00 p.m.  Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe St., Corvallis.

Wednesday, October 14 – ViewPlus Technologies, Inc. Tour.  “ViewPlus is recognized throughout the world as a leading innovator in research and development of assistive technology products for people with print and sensory disabilities.”  We will visit this amazing company right here in Corvallis.  RSVP by October 5th.  Meet behind the Super-8 Motel in the 1st Street parking lot for a 1:00 p.m. departure.  Contact Leader, Marilyn Hinds, 541-929-7136mkhinb...@peak.org
