Troubleshooting and possible solution described at:
http://code.google.com/p/maptiler/issues/detail?id=25#c26

Without guarantee. Patches from the community are welcome - it is an open-source project.

We (Klokan Technologies GmbH) are working on a new version of MapTiler, which should be available via Apple App Store and it will "just run".
In the meanwhile the professional tool MapTiler Cluster is available to all Mac users: http://www.maptiler.com/.

Best regards,

Petr

I'm trying to use the MapTiler beta on my Mac.  I've installed GDAL from map ports and downloaded the beta, but whenever I launch the app it terminates and generates this message in the system log:  9/26/12 7:52:57.969 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[146]: ([0x0-0x57057].MapTiler[409]) Exited with code: 1.

Any ideas for troubleshooting are appreciated.

Gave up on all of this craziness (beta-madness, non-functional converters, inept Mac application) and tried the Windows version – much more successful. I did take their suggestion and post-processed my map data to great benefit. Did that on the Mac once the files were converted, with the  python based compression tool "pngquant" batch process. Was able to customize the html a little bit. I found and tested the two versions (Google Maps, OpenSource). Here is one of them. I like it best. However it doesn't work as well as Google Maps on the iPad (zooming).

Good luck to you.

Latest MapTiler for Mac is available on the Mac App Store: http://itun.es/ch/jFlyJ.m

All version of the Mac OS X from 10.6.6+ are supported. For 10.7+ it is highly recommended to use this new version, it is significantly faster and with a lot of fixed bugs and new features.

It is just one click to download and install the MapTiler app on your Mac and it runs out of the box.
