to Map Your World - Tips, tricks & suggestions
Hi,

I tried to map a bike path in a country that was closed for editing
and got an error message about "no address found". I then posted a
question in the google groups and then found out (thanks to that
replier) that explained that my area was closed. I had no clue before
hand that there were opened and closed countries/areas.

Suggestion to google:

"Closed" areas/countries should be grayed out (disabled) in
MapMaker.

Also, a link to this page (Countries being mapped) would make sense
from within map maker, whenever the area being looked at is "closed".

Lastly, I wish there was a way to be informed whenever a new country
is "open".

A better "approach" would be to have a page that list countries, the
status "open/partially opened/closed", the date of that status, maybe
an ETA of the expected "opening/closing" date, and a "subscription"
button that will allow me to be notified whenever a given country
becomes open.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Could you please add your first two points
as a 'Feature Enhancement' on the Map Maker Issue tracker (
http://code.google.com/p/google-mapmaker/ )

However, we do announce the opening of new countries on this forum and
also on the Google Lat-Long blog: http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/search/label/Map%20Maker

Additionally, the list of countries that are open for editing is here:

Regards,
Map Maker Guide.
