Matth,

Universal Translator is not licenses for MapInfo Pro Runtime, it's only part of MapInfo Pro.
The same goes for all the other MapBasic tools that comes with MapInfo Pro.

One thing you could try is to use Open Universal Data.
Look at the FME Type under Register Table.

Subject: [MI-L] Universal translator in mapinfo runtime

Dear all,

I am currently trying to use the universal translator through the mapinfo runtime (to import dwg files).
But :
- imut.exe does not seem to be available with the runtime...
- I don't feel that the mapbasic command "REGISTER TABLE" fits to my needs, as the list and names of layers in the dwg file might not be known in advance.

So I tried to make a direct use of fme (to be more precise, FMEObjects) in my vb code, adding fmeobjects.dll to my project, then trying to create a FMEOSession object... which failed.

Could anyone tell me :
- if I can use the universal translator this way through mapinfo runtime ?
- if yes, any idea of the right way to do it?
- if not, is there a way to proceed, and ... which one ?

Thanks for help

Matth

Peter,

Thank you for your answer.
I looked at the FME Type under Register Table, but as far as I understand it, I have to specify the name of the feature type / schema I want to register.
My problem is that I would need to dynamically determine the names of the feature types / schemas that are stored in my dwg...
Is there any way to use "Register Table" for that purpose ?

Regards

Matth

I must admit, that I haven't tried programming the Open Universal data feature thru MapBasic.

Have you tried opening a DWG thru MapInfo Pro with the MapBasic window open?
Does it generate any MapBasic code that could be usable?

Peter,

Sorry, I've been out for some days.
Well, when you open the mapbasic window, you don't get any mapbasic log until the layer-by-layer import starts, i.e. the layer list lookup phase does not seem to generate any mapbasic command...
