updating layer after certain interval

I know about "animation layer" and also "server refresh table_name". I
want to update thematic layer according to change in some database
values but I am confused how to achieve this. Does mapinfo provide
some internal addons for this or do I need to add some mapbasic code
to do this task. I think this has been done before but couldn't find
anything on Mapinfo-l.
