This shouldn't be an problem - if you target an area and then render an
icon or a shape, it uses the area's center point to place the icon/shape
there. The same happens with labels.
Or is it something else you need?

export-bitmap already allows exporting to various file types, just change
the name of the output file.
I can add the option for generate-tiles too, but I'm not really a fan of
JPG tiles - the lossy compression just makes the tiles look really poor and
since each tile is compressed on its own, the compression difference

If it's not too complicated, this would be an interesting option for
generate-tiles and export-bitmap commands, too.

Maperitive can generate tiles for TrekBuddy and I use them on my smart
phone when I hike. JPEG files would save space on my memory card.

I've released a new version which now has "bitmap-type=JPG" parameter to do
what you're looking for.

Thank you Igor, I adapted the hiking rules to the Schwarzplan by deleting
what I don't need.
It worked like magic!!

By the way sorry for the "newbie" question, I'm just beginning to
understand how this works...
And congratulations for this great piece of work!

Yes, the progress is a bit useless when using fingerprinting. I'll see what

Oh, I guess you'll have to do more work, since "all lines" will cover
everything, not just the highways. Maybe you should study hiking rules, and
copy the "highways" part.

Hi,
When generating tiles with use of fingerprint, the progress shown is of
"tiles actually generated" out of "total possible tiles".
For example, in zoom level 15, there are only 2 intermediate progress lines
- for 10% and 20%:
Generating tiles for zoom level 15 (71825 possible tiles)...
Created 7183 tiles (10%) for zoom level 15 so far (1.4 tiles/s)...

Igor, I'm new to Maperitive and I'm also trying to make a black and white
plan.
I've been using the "Schwarzplan" rulesets, which are great. But I would
like to include black street lines as well (just the streets, not railways
and other stuff).
How can I alter this ruleset to do so?

Thanks for your help everyone. As it turns out I wasn't putting the tabs in
correctly and getting the structure wrong. All is solved now and is working
fine. :)

That's right, be careful when copy & pasting rules, the tab idents have to
be right in order for Maperitive to understand the rules.
