Why Cafe's are marked with Restaurant Icons ? Souldn't be marked with an icon more like Bar's ?

This is the feature in question : http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&fll=45.885262,22.900797&fr=0.000149,0.000215&mpp=0.415685&gw=39&ll=45.885221,22.901355&spn=0.002621,0.004731&z=18&iwloc=0_0&fid=5138310881808674673:13439876057402581571

Hi twist3r,
'Cafe' is a general term used to denote an informal restaurant in
many countries. However, I do agree that it can have multiple
meanings. For eg. in countries like Netherlands it's similar to a Bar.
If you strongly feel the need to change the icon, you can post this on
Issue Tracker as an enhancement :)

Thanks,

Probably you're right, but then why there is an additional category "Restaurants - Cafes " ? Isn't that redundant if Cafe allready means a restaurant as you say ?

Good Question, twist3r :) and a valid one too I must admit. To make
things clearer:

1. Adding additional categories won't, in any way, affect the 'Browse'
feature. So if a mapper marks a cafe as a 'Restaurant' and under
additional category as 'Restaurant - Cafe', this won't show up while
browsing for 'Cafe' features in an area.

2. Also, there would be no distinction between cafes and restaurant as
browsing for Restaurant will populate both these features with above
mentioned marking scheme.

I agree that Additional categories might be redundant at times but the
sole purpose is just to elaborate the category of the feature without
affecting any Map maker functionality. If a specific category is
available as primary category, then we should use it for marking the
feature. However, if we want to explain an existing primary category,
then we should do so using additional ones. Please let me know if you
disagree though :)

Ok, I had a hinch that it might be that way but I wanted to be sure :) Nevertheless, this is just a regional problem, like many others. In Romania there's no resemblance between Cafe's and Restaurants (just that they may serve cafe in restaurants), but usualy here, a Cafe is a bar with a large sorts of cafe's drinks.

It might be only confusing for some users in Romania who wish to go to a restaurant and if they don't use search (only visualise map) they would be pointed out to a Cafe instead of somewhere to eat.

But I see that would be hard to make specifics rules for evey country so I guess it's ok. I think that means that I have to mark Cafe's with Bar category to evoid confusions for local users. Thanks for your reply
