Deleting it with "Feature does not exist" seems to succeed with a "The
feature has been published successfully" message. However, a find
reveals that the intersection still exists : I have "deleted" this
intersection several times already.

I was trying to align the road (currently drawn straight) with the
satellite imagery which shows a winding road on a mountain with
several bends. Since this was a unnecessary intersection, I was trying
to delete it.
So each time a segment is edited in a way that results in the final
length being more than 800m, a new intersection (or more than one) is
automatically created? In case of heavy editing of roads, this may
create unnecessary fragmentation.
Ideally, limits like this 800m should be purely internal, and should
not affect a user's experience.

Map Maker Guide.
