I'm getting an error message when clicking the Edit entire road
section link for any section of the E 70 primary highway road at
location:
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&fll=44.003311,25.396099&fr=0.00494,0.006866&mpp=13.747085&gw=12&ll=44.009237,25.385284&spn=0.086425,0.163422&z=13
The error reads: "Internal Error[%1$s]: The feature you are trying to
modify is too long, cannot modify it directly". Due to the error, I
cannot modify the road attributes at all (name...).
Browser is Firefox v3.5.5, if it matters.

Its not really an error but a lack of ability to edit the long road
feature. It's already in issue tracker as feature enhancement so you
may want to vote for that. Cheers

Well the error message on the issue tracker is a bit different, but I
suppose the source of error might be the same. Question is, what the
heck am I supposed to do with that road? Just leave it with an
incomplete name as it is now?
Then again why are we bothering to draw highways and secondary roads
as a single road (as advised by the help guide), if in the end we end
up not being able to modify them at all?

Only option now is to delete and redraw the part which needs to be
modified/updated. However, if you only wants to update the name then
you can make changes to any one section of the road intead of
selecting the whole road for editing and it will be updated in whole
attached length.

Worked, thanks for the tip.
Do I understand correctly that modifying any section of a road will
propagate the changes to the entire road, regardless of its length? If
so, tell us which attributes get propagated (all?).

It's only for the attributes appearing on first tab called "Overview".
While any changes made in second tab will not make any change to whole
road regardless of length but to only that particular part which
specially helps in examples of when a section is a bridge, overpass or
underpass, different number of lanes, road priority, speed, etc. You
may want to have a look in help at the topic of Road and
Transportation for complete information with examples. Cheers
