Trouble accessing the main site.

Just thought I'd let you (Google) know that from time to time I have
trouble accessing the main site (not the help section, discussion
boards, etc). The trouble comes and goes but all you get for a
message, when using IE, is a "Can't open the site....Operation
aborted". Why does this problem exist? If the site was down (for
maintenance, say) wouldn't/shouldn't I get a notice of some kind from
Google instead of an outright denial?

Is it not quite odd to be repeatedly denied access to the site for no
apparent reason? My internet works but access to the site is non
existant. This is the only site where I have ever gotten the message I
quoted above.

Dear Gorio,

I checked with the team and we haven't come across this issue with IE
before. Can we you please let us know what version OS and IE (5/6/7)
you are using, if you have any browser extensions enablied, and also
check if there are any proxies set in your browser which might be
blocking Map Maker? Once we have this information, we'll run some more
tests to see if we can duplicate the issue.

I use Win XP Pro SP3 and IE 7.0. I have no proxies set and I'm not
sure what you mean by browser extensions. If you could give me a
little more info I will check that for you as well.

When it happens it usually happens only with the main site. If I have
a link to a profile or help section, etc. I can usually get there then
use the links on the page to get to the main site through my profile
or some other way. Occaisionally I can't access any of the map maker
sites. I have never had trouble accessing any other google sites
including the regular map site. The problem occurs now and again but
usually when it happens it happens frequently for a while and then
stops. It happened alot back several months ago and then the past few
months have been relatively fine and now it is happening with more
frequency.

On a purely unscientific observation basis sometimes I swear that the
denial happens more frequently when there isn't a good amount of
internet bandwidth. Other sites will load, but very slowly, GMM gives
me the "Operation aborted".
