Polytechnic and colleges

Hi All
What feature type do we select for Polytechnic and colleges? They are not Universities per se. Also for there is no feature for a water tank. This is a significant feature to map rural India.

Due to a glitch, a few categories were lost from the Map Maker

It would be helpful to know which features were removed. I don't
think I've seen a comprehensive list. These would include pier, dock,
traffic circle, landmark, as well as school categories mentioned here
and elsewhere.

(I see that the helpful Recipes; Fashion and Modeling; and Sewage
features escaped deletion. These have been useful lately in mapping
backpacking routes in Chile.)

Thanks for posting the list at last. I think as you have said already that these all will be restored sooner then why we need now the help page updated? Anyone can be redirected to this post  and it can be stick to top in the list. However, if plan is longer than what assumed to bring back these categories then its another thing. But.. this new list is not enough to map most things..

There is a confusion in treating College as Universities. As is the practice in US I have categorised them as 'School' in the absence of a specific category for College. It will also be inapprpriate to call a College as University.

Hope GMM will issue a clarification as to what is to be done for those edits which are treated as schools.

Dear Sirs,

It has been quite some time now that those important (very very)
feature categories (like College etc.) are missing. As mentioned by
many here, a College is definitely different from a University or
School.

Please try to get back those categories as early as you could! In the
absence of a proper identity category, many users would be adding them
to ambiguously mixed varieties in an irreversable way!

associated with religion needs to be explained better and, perhaps,
reworked. Religious Place might be ok, but we have various church and
temple features, as well as my favorite--Pilgrimage.

Is this supposed to be Public Toilet? "Rest Room" has a particular US
connotation that's distinct from what a non native English speaker
might think.

Well, it's really shown as Seaport. And the previous, much better
Port and Dock features are still missing. Seaport is an unfortunate
addition.

Shown as "Shopping center" with inconsistent capitalization.

> Table Tennis
Don't understand appropriate use for this in the real world. This
would typically be indoors, right? I see there's actually one of
these in, of course, Los Angeles. I'm guessing there are more
vertical wind tunnels used for skydiving practice, though. There
probably should be a lower limit on global density of features before
making them a GMM feature to avoid endless scrolling through noise
features. 100s? 1,000s?

Huh? Tea plantation? Tea shop?

> Tennis
Tennis Court?

I've been avoiding this whole area for months, since it's such a mess,
but at some point the GMM community has to have a concerted effort to
normalize features.

The suggested categories do appear in additional categories drop down list but it will make more sense to replace with these incomplete look alike category names.

True i was surprised to see someone has added a public toilet in Lahore with this category but after bit of search to the word, I left it as it is without completely understanding it. To my local community, a rest room could be a room to rest on short break either during a journey on transit stations or a place like motel but at very small scale..

Dear All

In spite of all repeated requests GMM has not come out with a solution to classify the institutions named 'College' or 'Polytechnic'. I am reluctant to call them University, as one University in our country has about 50 to 60 Colleges under it. How can I call all these Universities.

I have proposed to create a 'Category' and an issue has been posted in the issue tracker
