Dear Mappers,

I'm happy to announce that we're running a Map Maker competition in
Latin America now through December 15th. Check out all the details
here:
http://www.google.com/help/mapmaker/competitions/latam/index.html

Genoveva will be posting about this competition in Spanish in the
"Cartografía América Latina" sub-group as well.

The 3D modeling team at Google has done many competitions in the past
(http://sketchup.google.com/competitions/) that have resulted in many
great models on Google Earth. This will be the first mapping
competition that we've ever done for Map Maker, so it will be exciting
to see the results. Genoveva and I will give at least weekly updates
on how the competition is going.

Please post here or in the "Cartografía América Latina" sub-group if
you have any questions.

Cheers,

Jen.

Here's the blog post announcing the competition:

Regardless of when you register for the competition, all mapping
activity from November 14 - December 15 will be considered for
judging. The prizes are really terrific so don't miss out!

Cheers,

Jen.

Dear Shreyas,

Yes absolutely you can add your friends to your team. Simply re-
register for the competition & we will consider the most recent
registration the correct one.

Cheers,

Jen.

Hello Jen,

what is the "Best Practices document" mentioned in Official Rules?

It's in the Map Maker section of the Maps Help Center:
http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=155418

There's lots of good tips in the help center...we should have linked
to it from the Official Rules!

Cheers,

Jen.

Looks as if some hasty edits are being made. I hope the absolute
quantity of edits isn't too much of a criterion for winning the
competition.

Dear Rich,

The competition entries will be judged on quantity *and quality* of
edits *and moderations* -- we state this very clearly on the
competition site:

http://mapmaker.google.com/competencia

Cheers,

Jen.
