Hello potential Umstead pacing volunteers! I want to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth Werner. I’m the new Pacer Coordinator for the Umstead 100 Endurance Run and have some very big shoes to fill as Mike Walsh is stepping down. In my opinion, being a volunteer pacer is the most important volunteer job. Yes, the aid station volunteers are important, but YOU are with that runner during their highs and lows in the dead of night and it’s YOUR job to help them to reach their goals. Being a pacer is also extremely rewarding. Ultra runners are a rare breed and they inspire me every day. What better way to spend an evening/night/morning than help one of these amazing people finish the Umstead 100. It may be their first 100 miler or their 20th. I will send out more detailed instructions closer to race time. This email is for recruiting purposes.
What: Umstead 100 Enduranace Run
Where: Camp Lapihio at William B. Umstead State Park
When: March 31, 2012 (race will start at 6 am Sat and finish by noon on Sunday, April 1st)
In addition to needing pacing volunteers, I also need people to work the pacing desk in four hour shifts. This is also an important job as you will be helping the pacers sign in and calling them when a runner requests a pacer.
Please use one of the links below to register for the 2012 Umstead 100 Endurance Run. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to meeting you!
