There couldn't be a person more deserving as the featured member.  She is a true inspiration to us all.

  Congratulations Karla!

Agreed. When I was driving to Medoc I heard an advertisement on the local
radio station there in Raleigh for the Cancer Center. They spoke of Karla
and her indominitable spirit. There was a sound bite from Karla where she
talked about "my friend Joey" who got her through the marathons. Both of
them are an inspiration to the rest of us, to enjoy life, to take care of
each other, and to not let bumps in the road slow us down.

The MTC is full of such people - Karla is at the top of the list!

Outstanding inspirational story! And I too heard the radio ads several times. Awesome.

My reflections:
updated 8/30/2009

I am sometimes asked how I endure such long distances.  Well, I think about Jesus surviving 40 days in the desert with no food, no drink, and Satan relentlessly tempting him with surrender, yet Christ never gave in.  I think about my granddaddy’s WWII dog tags hanging around my neck; there are two of them: the ultimate symbol of wartime survival.  And I think about my grandmother’s last pair of walking shoes: symbolic of her zest for life, her walk with Christ and her refusal to ever accept defeat.
