I'm using a powerbook G4 laptop from several years ago and was
wondering if it would be fast enough to use with the mandala and
either battery, reason, or ableton live. It has a 1 ghz processor, 2
gb of ram, and is running mac os X version 10.4.11. I believe it also
has a slightly older type of usb, as whenever I connect my i-pod to it
it says that its using an older usb connection or something like
that.

Would I have to get an external audio box for outputs? Any thoughts
would be appreciated, I wanna get a mandala asap but i don't wanna get
one just yet if it means getting a bunch of other equipment.

you can download the program for free and try it on your computer to
see how it runs. i think it will basically work on your machine but
probably be a little bit sluggish. you will need some type of audio
interface to get the audio out though. any mac before the intel based
macs are pretty lame when it comes to putting out sound from pro audio
apps without an interface.

Thanks. I already opened the program on my mac but I can't hear any
sounds or really do anything with it without the mandala, right?
Just opening the program wont give me any indication of how the
performance will be.

I have a fast track m-audio box I can use with it also if it'll help
the performance.

you can load up a preset with a lot of effects on it, like 'seti call'
or something like that and then click the zone button in the dashboard
to trigger a sound and see how it reacts. also open and close menus
and see how fast it responds. you can look in the driver window and
click on the cpu usage button to see what % is being used up.

use your m-audio. it will definitely help.
