Problems detecting the Pad in VB

I know someone already had this problem but I couldn't find any
solution on here.
When I plug it the USB port, my pc (win XP) detects it and I can see
it in the Device Manager. But as soon as I open Virtual Brain, I can't
see the Pad as a midi device so I can set it up.
Virtual Brain only detects other midi devices: midi Yoke inputs and my
Tascam 144 midi input (my usb audio board).
I have tried different things - from changing the port, removing the
mandala usb audio driver and restarting the pc, but no luck.
It works perfectly on another pc, a shitty laptop with build in audio
card, using asio4all.
Please help!

a MIDI controller that doesn't use any special driver but just uses
the built-in Windows MIDI driver to operate. It doesn't come with any
driver to install because you already have it installed with Windows.
The Virtual Brain is only an audio program that gets triggered with
standard MIDI from the pad or any MIDI instrument.
Your problem could be because something in your computer corrupted the
Windows MIDI driver. It turns out that drivers made by Logitech and
some other companies for certain devices such as a wireless mouse or a
webcam directly cause the built-in Windows MIDI driver to
malfunction. Most likely if you got ahold of a class compliant USB
MIDI keyboard (no driver required) and plugged it in it would have the
same issue.

appear to be possible steps for you to take:

Things like that Logitech device's drivers are mentioned in those
links above as messing up the registry and causing Windows MIDI
problems.

Now I have some other issues - VB doesn't load presets (it says
loading but the number of zones and sounds remains the same) and I
hear weird sounds, instead of the ones I should normally hear. I guess
it must be from Max 4 & 5 beeing installed on my pc. I am seriously
considering buying a mac.

about the other issues, max/msp 5 won't interfere with the virtual
brain and neither will max/msp 4.6.3. if you have any older versions
than that then uninstall them.
some other things that will help what you are describing about the
preset loading:
- make sure you have not moved anything from the original virtual
brain folder. all those files need to stay exactly where they were
when the main folder was dragged onto your hard drive. if you
displaced anything it will probably not work.
- the best thing to do now that you solved your Windows MIDI problem
would be to trash your entire virtual brain folder and download and
install the newest full version from the support page of the mandala
website to ensure that everything is clean and up to date. also, the
updated manual comes with it now and it explains everything step by
step.

messages that show what is happening in your case. Your Virtual Brain
has issues because of some old version of Max that was installed on
your machine. The VB is calling up the wrong version of MaxAPI.dll.
Here's how to undo the conflict:
Do a search on your hard drive for MaxAPI.dll and take note of the
list of paths where this is installed. You probably have a version
incorrectly installed to C:\Windows\System32 -- if you do, remove it.
It shouldn't be there.
That should do it.
