Hi Everyone,

I've used NextGen Gallery for many years and not had an issue with it. However, over the last few months I've started running into problems either with it causing a clash with another plugin or more recently it causing issues when using Facebook Connect plugins.

I'm therefore looking for a replacement.

I need to be able to put photos in galleries and then group the galleries into albums that I can then output on different pages using a shortcode. A recent / random photo(s) widget would be great too. I'm not bothered about any fancy rating or comment system but this would be a bonus if included.

So far, I've tried a number of plugins including the list below but none really worked in the way of grouping sets of photos.

Take a look at http://www.tedxsalford.com/category/gallery. The theme
we're using, Digitalis, has http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/lightbox-plus
or something like it. Click on one of the photos to get a manual
slideshow. Is that what you're looking for? Or did you want a fading
slideshow?

Hi Wendy, many thanks for your input. That's a nice setup you linked to. It's more the admin functionality I'm looking for rather than the front end display. Currently the galleries output as thumbnails and clicking a thumbnail displays the fullsize image in a lightbox.

How do you add your photos to the posts? I've considered just uploading to media library and attaching to posts / pages but this seems to be a bit patchy and seems to not let you attach an image to two posts easily.

I cheated. I set up HTML tables using WP-tables Reloaded and added
thumbnails of the images from the TEDxSalford Twitter account. I
linked each one of them to a large image because Flickr does that; it
gives you options to display your images at different sizes. I must
confess I'd no idea the Lightbox would pick it up, it was a lucky
accident. Doesn't it look good, though?

WP-tables Reloaded allows me to hide some of the rows but provides a
button you can toggle to display more or all of them. That's what the
gallery is made of.

Have you considered moving the galleries/albums away from WordPress and
into Flickr / Picasa / etc? Would a plugin like
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pwaplusphp/ be suitable?

Thank you Wendy and Steve for your suggestions. I've had a rather hectic week so not much chance to develop the ideas further.

However, I think some sites we will migrate to using Flickr as it will be another good social media outpost for our clients and some clients will will move to using the built in Media Library.

I have been looking at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/attachments/ to make it easier to attach photos to posts and allow custom output that we can then apply css / jQuery to for the desired effect.

Do you know of any plugins that allow uploading photos to Flickr from within the dashboard so users can add photos to sets easily whilst editing their website.
