Hi everyone

I wonder which could be the best PHP editor, to develop WordPress applications. I am currently using Dreamweaver (old version), as well as free PHP Editor. There are several tools in the market. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one (at reasonable prices…) providing it would be useful for WordPress applications

Do you recommend any?

Thanks!

Angel

Netbeans or Eclipse. It's worth trying both before you pick one but my favourite is Netbeans. Both are FOSS.

It integrates nicely with source control and a load of PHP tools (like XDebug, PHPUnit).

If you want a paid IDE then try PHPStorm or Komodo. I've not used them but people I respect like them :)

Sublime Text 2 is probably the best code editor you can get at the moment.

Thanks!. I had seen Komodo already as an option…

I think I’ll go ahead with it

Hi Angel,

I use Sublime Text 2 for everything - I mainly work in HTML, CSS and JavaScript but it is also handy for PHP - syntax highlighting etc

Rumour has it Sublime Text 3 is around the corner.

Kind regards,

Simon

I do all my coding in notepad++ now, it's very stable and quick (I have been using this for 2 years now and has never crashed). It had an FTP manager included and many colour schemes.

Netbeans or PHPstorm are great. They are both brilliant out of the box.

I quite like Ultraedit (aka UE) from IDM.

There is also Ultrastudio which is more of an IDE. It's only really on a
Windoze platform unfortunately - they do have Linux and Mac versions but I
think they aren't as fully functional as the Windows version. I cross mount
mine on my linux box but it includes a ftp and ssh in fact so you can work
directly on some distant server if you want.

It does cost a little - and you get free upgrades for a year. There are a
number of configuration files available for different langage syntaxes. I
first came across it over 10 years ago and it's been pretty robust.
