  Just wanted to say thanks to Chris who mentioned the Serverpress plugin at &lt;br&gt; this weeks meeting. £30 well spent on the upgrade too. My localhost now &lt;br&gt; can support multiple wordpress development sites, import full sites from &lt;br&gt; live, export and upload at the click of a button. Very cool and well

  I quite like Ultraedit (aka UE) from IDM. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;There is also Ultrastudio which is more of an IDE. It&#39;s only really on a &lt;br&gt; Windoze platform unfortunately - they do have Linux and Mac versions but I &lt;br&gt; think they aren&#39;t as fully functional as the Windows version.   I do all my coding in notepad++ now, it&#39;s very stable and quick (I have been using this for 2 years now and has never crashed). It had an FTP manager included and many colour schemes.

  Netbeans or Eclipse. It&#39;s worth trying both before you pick one but &lt;br&gt; my favourite is Netbeans. Both are FOSS. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;It integrates nicely with source control and a load of PHP tools (like &lt;br&gt; XDebug, PHPUnit). &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;If you want a paid IDE then try PHPStorm or Komodo. I&#39;ve not used them but &lt;br&gt; people I respect like them :)
