Hello all,

I have a question for any plugin developers out there. (Rhys is a good candidate as I know he has done this).

Q1: Have you developed a premium plugin for WordPress?

Q2: Have you released a basic "free" edition of the plugin for download on WordPress.org

Q3: Has this increased the number of sales of your premium plugin (from free people upgrading to premium).

Or is this sort of question too hard to tell given no control plugin to measure against.

I ask as I for one didn't personally know CodeCanyon even existed (as a WordPress user for over a year before I started developing for it), I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat.

I am planning on going down this route for my recent plugin "Pics Mash". I have a friend who released a plugin called Social Gallery on CodeCanyon whose concept (and a chunk of the code) was copied and released as a free version by another developer (I imagine to make a few bucks down the line by offering an upgrade option).

I don't want this happening to my plugin, so my plan is to nip it in the bud and release a lesser featured version of my own as a free plugin.

Thoughts more than welcome.

Cheers
