4th Annual En Plein Air Art Festival

EN PLEIN AIR PREPARATIONS
Four years and counting! Yes, it’s been four years since the En Plein
Air Art Festival began. Once again the annual festival is ramping up
for an even better celebration of art this year. The Malvern Area
Betterment Association festival Chairman Cheryl Jones has announced
plans for the September 25 & 26 salute to the arts.
This year there will be a special new class for artists who wish to
participate in the weekend Plein Air contest. For those who wish to
enter to try their talent but not compete for prizes or be formally
judged, just bring a $25 entry fee and your painting equipment to town
and give it a try. On Sunday the art judge will give you a critique of
your weekend work, but the painting will not be formally judged for
the prize money.
MABA invites artists and vendors from all over the Midwest to
participate in this annual event. Registration for artists will be at
Classic Café on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9-10 AM. Entry fee for both
classes is $25. Artists compete for cash prizes of $250, 200 and $150.
The artwork will be judged on Sunday beginning at 2:00 PM. Winners
will be announced at 3:00 PM. The judge will give a critique of all
work submitted.
The lineup of events are as follows: Saturday – Pancake breakfast at
the community building, amateur art show at Pondibilities (open to
anyone who owns interesting art they would like to display), open air
vendor’s market featuring live artist demonstrations, children’s make
& take projects, the farmers’ market, live music throughout the
afternoon and evening in the park featuring Carlene Hall, Shane
Sayers, and Tim Koehn & Swampboy Blues. Outdoor seating for food and
drink will be available at local businesses. Two brand new attractions
this year will be a BBQ contest beginning at 10 AM for anyone who
wishes to compete. The Malvern United Methodist Church is sponsoring a
Bridal Gown Show featuring both vintage and modern gowns. Everyone is
welcome to display their gown. Participants are asked to bring along a
photo of the bride who wore each gown if possible. This new event will
be at the church from 1-4 PM.
On Sunday the events include the delicious Baer Bashers’ fundraising
dinner for Relay for Life at the Community Building followed by the
artists’ paintings judged and prizes awarded. Local wineries will be
on hand for wine tasting during this event.
At anytime during the weekend you may find the artists stationed
around the community working on the two projects that they have chosen
for the competition. Following the judging, everyone is free to meet
and visit with the artists and purchase the artistic works created for
the competition. All art pieces will be displayed at the Malvern
Library for one month following the festival and will be offered for
sale to the public.

Despite the rain, En Plein Air attracted 13 artists and perhaps the
best art we have seen in the 4 years. Thanks to Cheryl and MABA for
their dedication to the ARTS and MABA. Art is on display at the
Malvern Public Library for 1 month. Stop and enjoy it and tell
Cherly "Thanks." We have lots to celebrate in Malvern.

All: What a great job EPA was.  I'll admit, the rain tends to ruin everything for everyone quickly, yet I still saw people out, having fun, painting...even in the rain.

I know this is a far out idea, but what is the possibility of keeping the library open, even if by a MABA member and Library Board Member who has a key, during the Saturday evening when we have folks coming through the haunt?  I know it's a shot in the dark, but we can publicize the art down near the queue lines for the haunt via posters to get them to stop by the library on their way out for the night.  If folks are willing to do it, I'm fine with getting some posters up near the lines. 

Speaking of the haunt, a reminder:  www.gatewayofchaos.com.  Our Grand Opening is this Saturday, October 2.  Our dress rehearsal PRACTICE was rated an 8.5 out of 10 (0=eh, it's OK and 10=HOLY CRAP that's amazing.)  We're also ranked among the highest for haunts in the area.  Tickets are only $5 with a can of food or $7 w/out a can.  We'll run each Saturday from 8pm-10:30pm.  It's a scale up from last year, so please come support MABA, support the volunteers, and the thousands of hours that go into this event each year!  New photo's and a video are on our website, including lots of other vital information!
