For more information on the malta.* groups, go to:
http://www.malta.news-admin.org

This article provides a script to ensure that your site carries
all of the "approved" malta newsgroups. It should be used by the
local Usenet administrator to verify that all of the standard malta
groups are in the "active" file or the equivalent on  your local
system. If you don't see these newsgroups on your server,
kindly support the malta.* hierarchy by asking your Usenet news
administrator to add them to their server, for example by
executing this checkgroups message. Normally you can contact them
at n...@yourisp.com.

NOTE: Moderated malta newsgroups follow the convention that articles
can be delivered to the moderator by forming an address consisting of
the newsgroup name with the dots changed to dashes @cis.um.edu.mt
(i.e. malta.fan.x-files goes to malta-fan-x-fi...@cis.um.edu.mt, and
malta.fan.trekwho goes to malta-fan-trek...@cis.um.edu.mt). If you run
INN, you can add "malta.*:%...@cis.um.edu.mt" to your moderators file
(in /usr/local/news/etc typically, or in /usr/lib/news) to achieve this
effect.

A separate cmsg control checkgroups message has been posted recently.
That message is pgp-authenticated.

---------------For  Usenet  Administrators---------------

The "checkgroups" control message is supported by recent version
of news, to help you keep the active file in sync with the
"standard" malta groups. The following is a skeleton checkgroups control
message that you can customise and run locally to check your active file.

The following should be extracted, and then passed directly to your
checkgroups script on standard input.
