BTW, are there any topics you guys want to be covered? Just throw in
your suggestions. Then we'll try to match the topics to people willing
to present it either as a formal presentation or lightning talk at
this or future meetups.

Some potential topics:
- Ruby 1.9
- Rubinius
- Merb
- Capistrano

C'mon, you guys can do better than the list above. Let's hear 'em.

kamal

I hope it's recorded or something. So we over here at Sabah can keep
up to date with the stuff presented. hehe

Currently it's not, but that's a damn fine suggestion. Anybody willing
to lug their videocam and tripod? We'll convert it and post it to
YouTube or something.

Just a quick note that we have confirmed PJ Hilton as the location of
the January meetup. I'd like to kindly request that you RSVP your
attendance by replying to this thread (or if you are on Facebook,
confirm it there) so that we can properly estimate the number of
people coming.

If you are inviting a friend/friends do reply to this thread with the
number of people. Thanks.

Presentation updates:

- Syed Talat Fakhri, MindValley's Mathematician, will take over the
2nd main presentation slot with an engaging talk on using higher
mathematics in your web 2.0 application. Bring your CRUD app to the
next level with Machine Learning with Support Vector Machines,
Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) aka Latent Semantic Indexing and
clustering. I just made up that description, but those were the stuff
along the lines what we talked about over GTalk.

- Lightning Talk: Aslak Gronflaten will introduce Erlang to the
unwashed Ruby masses in his Lightning Talk

- Lightning Talk: Khailee will showcase BunchOut (http://kl.bunchout.com/
) and why Malaysia.rb members need to go out more often ;) Oh, and
maybe how a designer person like himself worked with Rails developers

- Lightning Talk: I will be doing a quick demo on how to make your
Rails app bloody fast with the help of memcache and the Interlock plugin

Reminder, the meetup is today!

There will be a pre-meetup screening of a screencast that will show
you how to get started with Rails, beginning at 7 PM. Ideal for
newcomers.

Bring your namecard or scribble your name and email on a piece of
paper to enter into the lucky draw.

Oh, and we'll have a video camera to record the meetup, thanks to
Richard Azlan for lending it to us. Yay!

More info on where in PJ Hilton:

Thanks everyone for coming. Personal thanks to the speakers: Colin,
Talat, Khailee and Aslak. Big up to the Technopreneur Development arm
of MDEC for hosting us. Respect.

I'll get the videos up as soon as possible, and also the presentation
slides.

If you blog about the event and/or took photos, please link it up.

Nor' Aini and Roni, you guys won yourselves a free PeepCode episode
each! Next month, I'll have more prizes to give away. If you want to

Great job guys. It was good to listen to you speak about the things you're passionate about.

My own work so far is mostly about quantifying human experience, and doing cultural anthropology - I like to figure out how people are programmed. There's a list of topics I like to discuss, in case anyone wants to talk more about math :) : http://hwayangjerng.blogspot.com
