=A0 That was a nice, well documented hack. If shutdown -r isn't enough, opt=
ions are:
-wake on lan
-controlling the computers backup battery from another computer over RS232
-use a telepresence robot to push the button.
-use something like a watchdog timer in a self powered dongle set to reboot=
the server after losing power.

Hey IT folks out there,
I just dumped a live running box while it was serving web pages and dbs ont=
o a remote box. The remote box is a spawned version of the original box.
All the DBs, services, users, configuration files copied perfectly. Here's =
a link to the notes I took while doing it:=0A=0Ahttp://wiki.makersalliance.=
org/display/MAB/FreeBSD+live+dump+and+spawn
Other than ESXi and Xen stuff, are there ways to remotely control the power=
and either serial console or USB/VGA? KVM seems to be overkill for what ca=
n typically be done via RS232, but we have one without cables so I guess th=
at is really a moot point except for the networking side of a kvm (how does=
that work, vnc?). What about the power? Can we remotely boot production ma=
chines from a cold off?=0A=0A
