Micky,

Sounds like fun to me. If you haven't yet made other arrangements, drop me an email : ad...@akerworks.com

One of the first things I printed when I got my bot was a set of feet for a lounge chair. Same problem, and this is definitely the best solution.

A similar project was my first foray into 3D modeling a physical object even before I had a 3D printer. Here's how I did it:
  • Put the part on a piece of centimeter graph paper and take a picture.
  • Import the picture into inkscape, line up the scale, and trace the 2D outline of the object. Save the outline as an SVG.
  • Import the SVG outline into blender and extrude. Convert the curve to a mesh, Go to edit mode and extrude the outline into a 3D shape.
  • Do any 3 dimensional editing you need to make a good part.
  • Export the 3D part as an STL.
  • Print and replace.
Like I said, it took me a while before I was able to do that last step, but the process was satisfying and the software is free, so give it a shot.

Hi I have a dresser from CB2, and in the move the plastic foot that attached to the metal leg fell out and was lost. I called CB2 but they no longer make the dresser and thus don't have the part.

I have the other plastic foot from the other leg, is there anyone who could some how hack me a new part? I'd be happy to pay a little something for the piece. I can also send, measure, photograph the existing piece for replication.

Let me know. And thanks for your help.

I've been using Tinkercad.com a lot for these types of projects.  If you don't have a legacy free tinkercad account I think you can still get a trial period for free.
